On Wednesday,
February 11th, Michael Bourret, Executive Director of CCWI was arrested
at the Frontier Café, in Brunswick. Bourret was rounded up with several
others in a dragnet cast by MDA,
the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Booked immediately, he was released on
good behavior, but only after posting an $800.00 bail.
On-the-street questions to the public about Bourret's arrest elicited
responses including "It's about time," and "I hope they throw the book
at him." Known throughout the region for his lengthy record, Bourret's
convictions include serving the community on a number of levels. In this
latest incident he enlisted the help of many others, yet unnamed.
Prevailing public opinion is a sense of
relief that he was finally apprehended by MDA, an organization that has
reportedly captured more suspects that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
– and they always get their man.
Created in 1950, MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through research,
medical and community services, and public education. These efforts wage
the fight against a range of hereditary, muscle-destroying disorders.
MDA programs are funded almost entirely by private donations.
